President Musharraf suspendes Chief Justice of Pakistan, Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry in March 2007. Countrywide protests by lawyers ensue. CJ is restored by a 13 member bench of Supreme Court in July. He and a number of other judges are, however, ousted byMusharraf, who imposes emergency in November. Benazir Bhutto and Nawaz Sharif return from exile. Benazir is immediately targeted by terrorists. She survives a blast at his rally in Karachi but the second attack in Rawalpindi proves fatal. Following the shocking assassination, elections are temporarily postponed as the nation mourns the loss.
